What I've Read in 2018

At the Water's Edge by Sara Gruen. At the beginning of this book, I was so annoyed with the characters, I almost hoped they would all fall overboard their transport ship (in the Atlantic during WWII, mind you) in search of the Loch Ness Monster. But then, I grew to care. I enjoyed this a great deal.
Blue Ridge Sunrise by Denise Hunter. I perfect summer read or curl up under a blanket in front of a fire read. Young lady returns to her hometown with her daughter and less than nice boyfriend after her grandmother dies. An inhereted peach orchard, an old flame and you have the perfect romance.
Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng. This was fantastic! An artist mother and daughter always moving. A well to do family of 6. How their lives become entwined and the consequences of decisions made.
Being Dead is No Excuse: The Official Southern Ladies Guide to Hosting the Perfect Funeral by Gayden Metcalfe and Charlotte Hays. This is a great combination of southern stories, people and recipes. Fun to read and yummy sounding food.
Spring Forward by Catherine Anderson. A perfect summer read...or winter while curled up in front of a fire. Ranching grandfather who took his grandaughter in as a child to save her from mental abuse. Roles reversed. A misunderstood dog. Love on various fronts. I liked this and read it in a day.
Burning Bright by Tracy Chevalier. Set in late 1700 London with the French Revolution raging across the English Channel. Jem and his family move from their country home to London after the tragic death of their son. They meet a circus owner who moves them into an apartment. where they experience many things. New friends. New enemies.. The printer, poet, artist William Blake. I really enjoyed this book. I care for the characters and wonder what happens to them after th book ended.
Seven Days of Us by Francesca Hornak This is set in modern day England at Christmas. A family's returning aide worker daughter's fmily will be forced into home quarentine due to a deadly virus that she has been helping treat in Liberia. Each chapter is told from a character's viewpoint for the week....the parents, the adult sister...the aide worker. There is also an unknown adult son who comes into play. I enjoyed this quite a bit. It causes a slowdown and study of one's day to day life.
And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie. I had not read an Agatha Christie book since I was a teen. 10 Strangers brought to Indian Island. But why? So good!
