A Sad Farewell

Just a short walk down our road is this place.
The Iris Farm is my landmark when telling people how to find our house.
The Iris Farm, makes me stop and smile, literally, every spring.
The farm sits on about 120 acres in all and has been in this location for 50 years.
Recently, a huge "For Sale" sign when up and within a very short period of time, a "sale pending" sticker went up.
What?
The family is relocating to Idaho.
It turns out that operating their business in California is just too high.
Increased regulations and much higher taxes are driving established and successful business out of my state and it make me sad and mad, frankly.
Add in a business that has ties to agriculture in any way and the decision to move is a no brainer, logically.
We are about to go on record as having the dryest March in history and the powers that have the power have just reduced, again, the amount of water farmers will be allocated this year.

Meanwhile, the family is gearing up for the final Iris Festival (a city wide celebration that this family also help found) next month.
It will be a sad day for this community to say good-by to this family and business.
They will sorely be missed.
Sugar Plum Fairy is also asking if we can plan a trip to Idaho.

Darn it! Idaho can be pretty, but it's no California. It's really too bad that so many are being driven out of the state. This looks like an especially painful loss!

Makes me sad to see a family owned business close up shop and leave town.
