I can hardly believe that a year has passed since we filled our first shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child, but it has. I have been collecting items throughout the year and stashing them in the closet. It was fun to see what we had collected throughout the year...flashlights, socks, paper and pencils, toothbrushes and games were some of the goodies.
Our 4-H Club is participating this year as well, so we will sending 6 boxes to children around the world. When the representative spoke to out 4-H group, she shared a story of a child receiving his box and being thrilled...his mother then took the plastic box and went to fill it with water for her family. An added blessing.
We made also made a small donation last year and were able to follow our boxes to the Phillipines. The kidnicks even received letters from the children who were given their boxes. Sugar Plum Fairy drew pictures for each box this year and we wrote a message with our address to include as well.
The National Collection Week is November 14 - 21 so you still have time to participate and help a child. Click here to find your nearest collection site. This is truly a simple and rewarding thing to do and bring joy to a child.
