Last month I learned of Operation Christmas Child from Natalie at Mommy on Fire and knew I wanted our family to participate. Operation Christmas Child is organized by Samaritan's Purse and their mission is "to demonstrate God's love in a tangible way to needy children around the world and together with the local church worldwide to share the good news of Jesus Christ." Natalie's post was wonderful ...take a peek. Last year Samaritan's Purse distributed 8 million of these boxes to needy children around the world. In a nutshell, we will fill a shoebox with goodies, take them to a local drop off center next week and the boxes will be distributed to children. You can read in more detail here and locate a drop off center here. The process could not be any more simple...pack a shoe box (some ideas are listed on the website as well), enclose $7.00 for help to defer costs, drop the box off and then track it to its' final destination.
We pray that by filling a small box with items we sometimes take for granted, we will be able to share the true meaning of Christmas with a child who otherwise would would be unaware.
